Who is Fr. Jim McNeely?

Since I am “he”, I can only tell you what I believe and report what others have said. Oh, and list a few facts that really aren’t in dispute.

I’m a kid from Indiana who has been all over the world, thanks to a 23.5-year career as an Army chaplain. I’m from Elkhart, Indiana, which is said to be the RV capital of the world (that’s the legend). My parents came to the manufacturing center of America from the Appalachian mountains of extreme southern Ohio and West Virginia. Both my parents worked “blue-collar” jobs to help keep the family going. It wasn’t an easy childhood, but it wasn’t the worst either.

Since I was beginning adolescence, I’ve experienced God’s great mercy and grace. I made the decision to follow Jesus as a 12-year-old. My pilgrimage took me from the Baptist Bible Fellowship to the Charismatic Renewal (connected indirectly to the Jesus Movement in California) to the Wesleyan-Holiness community. Ultimately, it converged with the three streams of the Charismatic Episcopal Church (CEC). I’ve experienced both the best and the worst that the church has to offer.

My interests naturally lie in the impact of spirituality and religion on the world, especially Jesus’ charge for us to make followers of His throughout the world. My primary way of doing that is through my ministry as a priest, where I preach, teach, counsel, guide, and administer the Sacraments of the faith. Some of my dearest friends say I have a “prophetic personality”…but I hope I’ve mellowed and become more of a pastor and shepherd of the flock than a fire-breathing pulpit banger! 🙂

This page features a blog where I also explore the intersection of politics and faith in American society and the world. Politically, I am libertarian. I try to be fair to all points of view, but I don’t apologize for my own views.

I’m a father (of four adults and one high schooler), grandfather of 4, and husband of a fantastic lady named Jennifer. I’m a retired Army chaplain and am a volunteer priest for a community of Franciscan sisters and brothers in Columbia, Missouri. Most of all, I’m a passionate person who loves my family and cares deeply about others.

My hope is that this webpage will serve as a resource for everyone on or considering the faith journey, providing you with material to consider. Some of it is scholarship…some of it is opinion. All of it is offered in love.
